The question is what number?

Should Aaron Rodgers sign with the Steelers, what number would we see on
the back? His beloved #12 will most likely not be on offer. Though Terry
Bradshaw’s number is not officially retired I doubt very much there is an
appetite to see anybody donning it. Another famous #12, Joe Namath, who
guided the Jets to a Super Bowl win in 1968, had his jersey retired in New
York in the 1980s. Though Namath told Rodgers before signing that he could
Somehow I don't think Rodgers will be interested in #7, again probably
not on offer anyway. The most likely is #8 . As Punter Corliss Waitman
already wears #8, someone would have to pay plenty of Shekels
to make that exchange, that is if Waitman will be willing to swap.
With all due respect to the Steelers’ punter I don’t think it will
cost too much to buy the existing merchandise stock with ‘8 Waitman’ on it.
However that was the number Aaron Rodgers wore at the Jets so might be keen
to avoid it after his time there and the acrimonious departure.
His Bute college #4 is taken by the newly signed DK Metcalf. Russel Wilson
will be very contentious. Justin Fields wanted to wear the No.1 which he
wore through college and while at the Bears, but no Steelers player has
worn #1 in a regular season game since kicker Gary Anderson (the all-time leading scorer
with 1,343 points (Boswell is on 1127)) in 1994. With Patrick Queen playing
combines the two shirt numbers Rodgers wore for the last 22 years.
