With the 2025 NFL Draft just a few days away, here are some blurbs on ‘my guys’ of the entire class, split into 3 categories of 5 people: my favourite prospects overall, my favourite projected first round picks, and my favourite underdogs.
MY GUYS:
Logan Brown - OT - Kansas
There simply aren’t enough superlatives for my thoughts on Logan Brown, and I simply cannot understand the consensus grade on him. He’s powerful, he’s athletic, he’s violent, he hasn’t given up a sack in 5 years of college play. He truly, in my eyes, isn’t far off being the finished product. Absolutely 100% my guy of this year’s draft.
Donovan Ezeiruaku - EDGE - Boston College
I truly believe this man is the closest to TJ Watt you’ll find in this draft class. Incredibly productive, super fast, awesome awareness, a killer in both run and pass defence. For me, should 100% be a Top 15 pick in this draft, and the EDGE player that, in such a talented class, I’m rooting for the most.
Andrew Mukuba - S - Texas
Safety, slot corner, it doesn’t matter, Mukuba can do it all. A violent tackler who plays far beyond his measurables, Mukuba has every chance of being the absolute steal of the NFL draft this year. As versatile as he is intelligent, and boy he is intelligent. A diamond for your secondary.
Jalen Royals - WR - Utah State
The slippery snake of Utah State, Royals is a super elusive, super productive receiver who has answered any red flags he may have against him in my opinion. Such an exciting player to watch with great burst, soft hands and pure toughness.
Tahj Brooks - RB - Texas Tech
Overlooked in a super deep RB class, I truly believe Brooks would have been RB1/2 in last year’s class. A Najee Harris replacement if there ever was one, his exceptional motor is backed up with smart, patient finding of gaps, smash mouth blocking and super reliable receiver capabilities. Miss out on Brooks at your peril.
MY (MOST LIKELY) 1ST ROUND GUYS:
Ashton Jeanty - RB - Boise State
My number 1 player in the draft. Most productive back by a landslide in 2024, explosive, sheds tackles effortlessly, feels like every time he touches the ball something magic is going to happen.
Jihaad Campbell - LB - Alabama
A freak athlete with inside and outside linebacker versatility, excellent decision making matched with dogged determination. A Swiss Army knife that, health pending, could become the integral cog of an NFL defence.
Kenneth Grant - DT - Michigan
An alien of a nose tackle once referred to as ‘a gift from the Gods’, and it’s easy to see why. Insane athletic traits matched with great shedding ability and youth on his side. All he needs is a good coach in his ear to give him the kick up the rear he needs and he’ll be an elite tier lineman.
Jahdae Barron - CB - Texas
Another Swiss Army knife, but this time for the secondary. Barron’s vision, motor and violence make him very nearly the total package as a corner. He studied Physical Culture, and boy, is he the embodiment of Physical Culture!
Matthew Golden - WR - Texas
My WR1 in this class. Terrific speed, safe hands, super effective in contested catches, doesn’t let the big moments get to him. As big a superstar of a receiver as you’ll get in this draft, with an incredibly bright future ahead.
MY UNDERDOG GUYS:
Johnny Walker Jr - EDGE - Missouri
How this man is so low in consensus I do not know. Brilliant power for a slightly smaller pass rusher, great initial burst, forced fumble machine and has shown out against top tier competition, as well as at the Shrine Bowl. For me, should be going 3/4 rounds higher than projected.
Nash Hutmacher - DT - Nebraska
166-0 4x state champion wrestler, and his tape shows it. ‘The Polar Bear’ shows great strength, a terrific motor and an edge you love to see. He might not be the finished product yet, but I feel he’s absolutely worth a late round flyer to develop.
Efton Chism III - WR - Eastern Washington
From the same school as former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, and even taking down a couple of his records along the way. EC3 dominated in the FCS, always looking open and breaking tackles left, right and centre. It’s going to be quite the step up, but if Kupp did it, I think there’s every chance Chism could too.
Andreas Keaton - S - Temple
One of my two dark horses of the draft process, Keaton’s intelligence and fantastic tackling ability should, in my opinion, make NFL teams interested in taking a 7th round shot at him.
Preston Wilson - IOL - Oklahoma State
My other dark horse of the draft. The reps are inconsistent, but when they’re good, they’re as good as any IOL in this draft. A hell of a mover and an Honor Roll student to boot, I feel with tweaks to his game and a bit of a bulk up Wilson could make some kind of impact.
